Information about Mexico Dialing Changes
As the demand for phone numbers in Mexico has increased, the Mexico Federal Telecommunications has introduced a new dialing plan switching from an 8-digit to a 10-digit plan. This new plan will allow for additional numbers to be created and distributed and will also align Mexico’s dialing plan to the recommended numbering standards published by the International Telecommunications Union, (ITU).
All RTC Long Distance customers are NOW required to utilize the 10-digit dialing plan for all Mexico bound calls to be correctly routed and completed. The new 10-digit dialing plan will require that all calls dialed from the United States are in the format: 011 + country code 52 + 10 digits.
Additionally, calls bound for Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey will have a new 2-digit area code that is dialed after the country code and before an 8-digit local number. Calls bound for all other locations in Mexico will have a new 3-digit area code that is dialed after the country code and before a 7-digit local number.
Current dialing plan example:
- Mexico City 011 + 52 + 5 + 5XX XXXX
- Rest of Mexico 011 + 52 + 7 + 484 XXXX
(ex. Acapulco)
New dialing plan example:
- Guadalajara 011 + 52 + 33 + 8-digit local number
- Mexico City 011 + 52 + 55 + 8-digit local number
- Monterrey 011 + 52 + 81 + 8-digit local number
- Rest of Mexico 011 + 52 + 744 + 484 XXXX
(ex. Acapulco)
