Social Media is jumping on the OTT train! Over the last year Social Media big hitter like Facebook and Twitter have promoted and pulled off more live streaming events than they ever have. Last quarter, Twitter streamed more than 800 hours of LIVE content! Twitter recently announced that they are expanding their live streaming and have partnered with Live Nation for live concerts, MLB, WNBA, and PGA for live streaming of sports coverage, Buzzfeed and Vox Media for shows that highlight news and technology.
It looks like Twitter has a handful of great partnerships to kick them off to a great live streaming start. Twitter isn't planning for these streams to be sporadic either! Currently, they have 16 LIVE streaming deals in place. Buzzfeed is planning on doing a live stream news broadcast every morning while Twitters partnership with Bloomberg looks like they will launch a 24/7 breaking news broadcast created just for Twitter. As for sports, WNBA will live stream 20 regular season games and MLB will produce a 3 hour weekly program! Will this strong list of programs and partnerships get others interested? Will social media become the new TV? Time will only tell but in the meantime Twitter is jumping feet first into the OTT world.
Facebook offers live streaming to it's users as well! Did you know you can view RTCtv4 LIVE on Facebook? You can tune in May 6th for a LIVE stream of The 2017 Red Carpet Affair!
